Infrastructure Improvement
The Massapequa Water District has recently completed the replacement of the water main on Jefferson Place and Beach Road. This work was performed in conjunction with the Town of Oyster Bays road improvement program and a review of the Districts main break records. The District works closely with the Village and Town of Oyster Bay in order to perform any necessary work on those streets earmarked for road resurfacing. In this way, the District hopefully does not need to open a newly paved roadway except for an emergency situation. We thank the residents of Jefferson Place and Beach Road for their patience and cooperation during this project.
Well Control System
The District is currently in the design phase with regards to the replacement of its current control equipment which has become obsolete. This new equipment will help to insure that the Districts supply and treatment facilities operate at the highest efficiency possible. It will also allow the District to better diagnose the operation as a whole and keep track of maintenance specific items. It is anticipated that this project will be completed prior to the 2009 summer pumping season.
May Place Elevated Tank Rehabilitation
The rehabilitation of the May Place elevated storage tank which will include various structural repairs that are necessary to insure the integrity of the structure is currently in the design phase and will be placed out to bid during the Fall of 2008. It is anticipated that this project will be completed prior to the 2009 summer pumping season.
Administrative Office Emergency Generator
The installation of an emergency generator at the Districts Administrative Office located at 84 Grand Avenue is currently in the design phase. This new generator will help meet the needs of the District to maintain administrative functions during emergency situations where a power outage is realized. Functions such as: 1) assigning of personnel; 2) communication with consumers, employees, Nassau County Office of Emergency Management and regulatory agencies to name a few are vital in restoring the system to normal operation while at the same time safeguarding the consumers, employees and facilities of the Massapequa Water District. It is anticipated that this project will be completed by the second quarter of 2009.
Hydrant Flushing A Success!
The District continues to perform hydrant flushing on a semi-annual basis. This program has been highly successful from both an operational and public relations standpoint. The program performs two functions: first is to rid the system of accumulated sediments which would eventually surface in consumers homes and second is to check the operation of each hydrant to insure its availability in case of an emergency. This flushing has also reduced the number of complaints received by the district regarding water quality. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this semi-annual program.
